Results roll in for 2019 Virginia primary

Polls have closed after voters cast their ballots in primary elections across Virginia for supervisors, prosecutors and the General Assembly, including an unprecedented contest in Fairfax County.

Fairfax County supervisors

The highest-profile race was for the chair of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, which had its first Democratic primary in decades. Even so, WTOP’s Max Smith said at 7 p.m. that voter turnout was on track to be under 10 percent.

The candidates are Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay, at-large school board member Ryan McElveen, Georgetown Law professor Alicia Plerhoples and developer Tim Chapman. With about 63% of precincts reporting, McKay had a lead:

McElveen 17.17%
Chapman 9.97%
McKay 41.13%
Plerhoples 31.73%
