Worker dies after buried under yard waste at Montgomery Co. solid waste transfer station

A man has died Thursday afternoon after a work incident in Montgomery County, Maryland.

It happened just after 1:30 p.m. at the Solid Waste Transfer Station in Derwood.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue said that the worker was buried under a large pile of yard waste, including tree stumps, branches and brush.

Officials believe the man was buried for about 15 minutes before being rescued; he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officials are working to determine the cause of the incident. Police are on the scene conducting a death investigation.
