WASHINGTON — A garbage truck hit a bridge over the Monocacy River in Frederick County, Maryland, and officials say it could be days before it is open to traffic again.
The Frederick News Post reported that around noon Wednesday, a garbage truck being towed struck several of the overhead steel beams of the steel truss bridge that carries Maryland Route 355 over the river.
Maryland State Highway Transportation Charlie Gischlar told the newspaper that there is damage to the beams and that out of an “abundance of caution” the bridge will be closed until further notice.
Highway officials and engineers are evaluating the bridge.
